Alco S Series & RS-1 Handrail Stanchions – $16.95

This is a set of HO Scale handrail stanchions made to fit the Alco S Series switchers (S-1, S-2, S-3, S-4) as well as the RS-1.  The stanchions are made out of phosphor bronze making it possible to solder wire to them if so desired.  CA also works well for attaching the parts.  We recommend using .015″ phosphor bronze wire (available separately) for the handrails.  The stanchions are formed by folding the two pieces at the base to create the bolt and mounting plate detail.  The pins on the bottom of the stanchion are inserted through the holes in the mounting plate.  It is recommended that you attach the mounting plates to the sill of the locomotive with CA first to determine the location of the stanchions.  Then, drill the required holes through the mounting plates into the sill.  It is then very easy to attach the stanchions to the sill through the mounting plates with CA.  In the case of older Atlas models which have the metal frame we recommend filling the holes in the frame with styrene using CA.  The mounting plates can then be attached to the frame on top of the styrene “plug”.  The holes for the mounting pins can be drilled into the styrene plugs.  The end stanchions are made by bending the stanchions at the fold lines.  Follow the photos below as a guide.  

Note in the photos below that the mounting plate has 4 holes.  The set was revised since the photos and the plates are equipped with 2 holes vertically aligned.  The 2 hole mounting pattern makes it possible to mount the stanchions on the older Atlas models with the metal frames.
